How to fix iPad Pro Screen turning off randomly?

I was gifted an ipad pro for christmas and it keeps randomly just turning off. I tried it figure it out if it was the camera being covered which is making it turn off or something but it isn’t. It isn’t shutting down or anything just turns the screen off and i have to keep unlocking it. occasionally when this happens, i click the top button to turn it on and the button just doesn’t work for a few seconds. i tried looking it up and it said could be a damaged battery but this is a brand new ipad so i’m confused on why it is playing up.

Are you suggesting that the iPad screen locks while you are actively using the iPad - or if you are not actually interacting with the iPad screen for a defined period?

The inactivity period is set in iPad settings:

Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock - select 2, 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

Selecting Never is inadvisable as your iPad will never automatically lock - allowing anyone with physical access to your iPad unlimited access to everything on your iPad.

If your iPad has FaceID, you can enable the iPad's Attention Aware feature - which allows the iPad to sense that you are actively looking at and engaged with your iPad. While you remain focussed on your iPad screen, the iPad will not automatically lock:

Settings > FaceID & Passcode > Attention Aware - set to ON
