Mac mini recognizes HP 2050 printer but won't print via USB adapter

I purchased a new Mac mini and connected my HP 2050. It shows as recognized by the Mac; when I try to print it appears to send it to the printer but never prints. It is connected through a USB to USB adaptor. The printer will work fine when connected to another laptop I have, but that is not through the adaptor. Is it possible the adaptor will not work for some reason? Thanks in advance...
