Apple Wallet Entering Wrong Expiration Date

I have noticed today when I was trying to make a payment an online shopping platform through Apple Pay, it was getting declined. I called my bank and they confirmed me that Apple wallet is entering wrong expiration date (Month +1) then I had to enter my card information manually in their website to check out. I have tried deleting the card, add back manually to wallet while the bank representative was on a call with me. Still the same issue. I believe this is a bug.

Does the bank issue their own tokens or do they use a Token Service Provider (TSP)? Nearly all banks use a TSP, a third party that encrypts data and provides dynamic token to Apple servers and then Apple servers add the token to a Secure Element on your iPhone. The most likely scenario is the bank is sending the wrong information to the TSP and the bug resides with the bank (or potentially the TSP).

When you enter the data in your iPhone the data is encrypted and sent to the Payment Network Operator (Visa, MasterCard etc.) and they confirm the data. If Apple had sent the incorrect date the PNO would have issued an Invalid error message and it would have said invalid on your iPhone long before the information was forwarded to your bank and the TSP.

Hi Jeff, thank you for your response. I am not much familiar with the Bank process of TSP but for me as an user the Wallet checkout used to work Prior to 18.2 upgrade but now it's not working therefore I have connected with the bank and relayed the same message here. If that's only me who is facing the issue then that's certainly the bank error. But when I checked out using my card directly to the vendor it worked fine.

When you check out using your card, the expiration date is coded on the magnetic strip on the back of the card and the chip. Electronic wallets (google, Samsung, Apple etc.) cannot access that data. It relies on the printed data and/or what you input. The issue is one of the 2 or 3 entities involved the issue, that I mentioned above.

If you want to resolve the issue, start with my first question above. Does your bank issue the token or do they use a Token Service Provider? That one simple, single answer will help resolve the issue you’re experiencing. I understand if you don’t want to pursue a resolution. But I’m willing to help you through the process.
