Upgraded from Mac Mini to Mac Studio - Not seeing external hard drives

I just upgraded from my mac mini to my dream-spec mac studio. After getting my bluetooth mouse and keyboard set it was time to plug in my usb hub and connect my external hard drives, printer, etc. It is not recognizing anything on the hub. The hub is a wenter and was plugged into the mac mini and worked just fine. Wenter advises it needs no driver or software to operate. I've taken just one external hard drive and plugged it into the usb port on the studio and no luck seeing it there by itself. I can plug in my external speaker to that and it works fine. I'm stumped!

If you are not seeing the hard drive either when you plug it into the hub, or when you plug it directly into the Mac, that might suggest that there is an issue with the drive or the cable.

Where is the drive failing to show up? In Disk Utility? Or just in the Finder? In the Finder, if you select Settings… from the Finder menu, you'll see General and Sidebar tabs which determine which items show up as icons on the Desktop, and as entries in Finder window sidebars, respectively. Are you sure that the drive is failing to mount and that the problem isn't simply that Finder is set to hide external drives?
