I made the mistake of "sharing across devices" Apple Podcasts. Now that I have stopped that practice (I only like to listen to Podcasts on my iPhone,) how do I clean up my Mac. I deleted all references to the different channels and episodes but there still seems to be a ton of space being taken up by remnants left over. I find over 30Gbs of data in user/library/container/podcasts/data/tmp/streamedmedia. All .mp3s.

I don’t know, because I have not deleted anything yet. I used OmniSweeper to see what is contained in “System Data.” (I know that is a misnomer.) So the folder Container is pretty far down in the weeds, so to speak. It is not visible just pursuing the Library folder. In fact I cannot find anything related to Podcasts
I don't use Apple Podcasts (or listen to podcasts on my computer, for that matter). I stick entirely to PocketCasts which is awesome. But, deleting a bunch of mp3s shouldn't hurt anything. I don't really think you need to do this but, if it makes you feel safer, it won't hurt: Move them all to the trash. Restart your computer. If everything is fine, they weren't necessary.

Wow! I got a 512 gb this time around because it was the model that had all the other things I wanted. But I haven't managed to fill up a 256 gb in years.

Yeah, that is my problem. I do have a lot of music creation stuff (loops and what not,) as well as Motion Templates. But the biggest hog is “System Data” and that is what I am trying to minimize. “System Data” I am told is Apple’s way of saying “Other, or We Really Don’t Know.”

I'm sure Apple knows. But, it's complicated. It's a lot of different stuff. You can always backup all of your personal data then wipe the drive and reinstall the MacOS (haven't done that in years so I'd be of little help).
If it were me, I'd do what I could with the information OmniSweeper provides then buy an external drive.
Please, whatever you do, do NOT use something like CleanMyMac or any other "cleaning" application. They have been know to damage things or delete important files.
OmniSweeper is good, but a very similar feature is built into latest versions of Mac OS.
Menu, About This Mac, More Info, Storage Settings, then click on any category to see a list of content sorted by size.
And one of the categories is Podcasts.
What happens when you delete those mp3s?

Thank you. You are right that does show details. Unfortunately it is not able to show any detail for “System Data.”
