How do I delete Apple Intelligence from iPad Air 5 to free up storage?

I have an iPad Air 5 with limited memory (64 GB). Until recent update with AI, I had managed to keep my storage below 50%. A large chunk of this due to aggressively leaving a number of apps only in iCloud. But now, from what I have read, Apple Intelligence adds yet another 7GB to already bloated required storage for iPad OS and related data of 32gb (i.e. 50% of total storage).

Is there any way to delete (vs. simply turning off which have already done) this for me useless “app”. At some point maybe 2 years from now when I refresh and end up getting forced 128 gb can start using…

Yes, really. Ebersj’s statement that Apple Intelligence adds another 7 GB to the storage required for iPadOS is correct and is backed by Apple. It’s a valid concern to have when compatible devices were sold with anemic storage. No one is claiming that 7 GB of storage is gone once Apple Intelligence is enabled, so it’s pointless to keep refuting a point that no one made.

The amount of data that Apple Intelligence is currently taking up on a device varies and the significance of that amount is subjective.

Currently, it is common to see Apple Intelligence use 2 - 6 GB of storage on a device depending. When Apple Intelligence first started rolling out, it required 4 GB of storage. Two months later it is now 7 GB. It’s safe to forecast that the storage requirement, and the amount of storage that it’s occupying on a device will increase as more features are added and Apple Intelligences nears the end of its beta.

Again, it is valid for people who purchased compatible devices with almost half of its storage consumed by the OS, or people who do not purchase iCloud storage to offload to to be concerned with Apple Intelligence’s growing storage requirement. It’s valid for them to seek a way to manage the storage that it’s taking up on their device, and it appears the only way to do that is by doing what Mac Jim ID suggested to do. Using devices with little free space is more common than one would think, but it would take one to look past their own hubris to see that.

I think they meant 7GB of storage, not Memory. A common misconception. I have Apple Intelligence on my iPad Air 5 too and confirm that it is currently using 5.97GB of storage, taking iPadOS up to 16.92GB on an iPad with only 64 GB of storage. Add onto that the system data which is currently 6.76GB (even after a clean reinstall then iCloud backup) and you’ve already lost 23.68GB of storage before downloading even a single app. It’s getting ridiculous now.

ebertsj is talking about storage. According to Apple, Apple Intelligence requires 7 GB of storage. How to get Apple Intelligence - Apple Support

Not really. Apple didn't say Apple Intelligence takes up 7GB of storage, but it does mean you must have at least 7GB of storage available. As I said, my storage on NO devices went up 7GB when I downloaded Apple Intelligence to any of them. But if I didn't have at least 7GB of available space, Apple wouldn't let Apple Intelligence install and I'd be informed I need to delete things to make room for Apple Intelligence. No one should be running an iPhone with so little free space on it, so for most people, this wouldn't be an issue.

I'm not going to argue with you. I can tell you that on NO device I own, did Apple Intelligence use 7GB of storage when downloaded. Regardless, if a device doesn't have enough memory to meet peoples storage needs, that's on them for not buying a device with more memory. No one here can help with that. And Apple Intelligence can't be removed. Since we are NOT Apple, we don't have the ability to change anything about whatever space it takes, so telling other users what Apple needs to do is an act in futility here. The question has been asked and answered. Apple Intelligence once downloaded can't be removed. It can be turned off, however.

No, it can't be removed. It is built into iPadOS, iOS and MacOS. I don't know where you read that Apple Intelligence takes up 7GB of memory? Don't believe everything you read or you'll wind up believing the earth if flat. Apple Intelligence does not use up 7GB of storage on your device. It requires a device which has 8GB of RAM, which your Air 5 has. And while using Apple Intelligence it will use more RAM, but that in itself is only while being used. I saw absolutely no appreciable increase in memory taken when I added Apple Intelligence to my iPhone, iPad Pro or MacBook Pro.

Yes, as technology advances and becomes more robust and complex, we need more storage. This will never change. Hence why Apple no longer sells any iPhone or iPad with less than 128GB today to begin with. And 128GB is in my opinion, the bare minimum. For my iPhone and iPad I have now moved up to 512GB. Once purchased, you cannot add memory to your device. So buying one with enough memory at the get go is important.

I have for more than a decade bought Apple devices…phones, iPads, MacBooks, etc. and because I am NOT a person who uses or needs maxed out or even higher storage or RAM, have NEVER bought a higher amount and have done fine (admittedly, have typically ended up trading in for newer one every 3-4 years). Sorry, and thanks for your POV, but am ****** when as you rightly point out, minimum storage for iPads and iPhones will be 128, if I will upgrade to the next level, or 256. It is one thing to provide value added apps, and even an ever more bloated OS, quite another to “force” what could or maybe should be optional stuff so we then have to spend even more on storage or RAM…IMHO.
