  1. Check to see that the Silent switch is not set to ON. Silent switch is located on the Top Left Sideof your iPhone.
  2. Open Settings  Sounds & Haptics  Ringer and Alerts : Make sure this is not set to OFF or too Low. Set Change with Buttons to OFF. Below that Make sure that there is a Ringtone selected.
  3. Check to see that Silence Unknown Callers is set to OFF. Open Settings  Phone  Silence Unknown Callers : Set this to OFF
  4. Make sure that a ringer sound is assigned. Open Settings  Sounds & Haptics  Ringtone : Ensure that a Ringtone is assigned here.
  5. Check to see that Do Not Disturb is set to OFFSWIPE DOWN from the TOP RIGHT CORNER of your screen. This will reveal the CONTROL CENTER. Find the FOCUS button (should be highlighted in white if Do Not Disturb is ON) and Tap on it. This should turn OFF Do Not Disturb.
  6. If all of the above is OK on your iPhone then Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:
  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

I think I might have figured it out. I have a IMac, Ipad, Iwatch, macbook and Iphone. I have share focus modes on all of them. Last night I turned that off on all devices except the watch i forgot about. I kept testing the phone and had it going to user busy and voicemail. I turned celluar off the watch and wifi along with the DND mode was on and sleep mode was on. I depowered the watch so it couldn't connect and now my calls are going through. I tryed with 4 poeple who are all on my contact list so the question is what will happen with somone not on my list or a person not on favorites list. I think the focus mode on the watch is the problem. I haven't worn the watch in weeks its sits turned on by my nightstand. I have been wearing a garmin watch 90 percent of the time. thanks for all the help. I am going to hold off on a clear system backup for now and try this first. I but a new phone each year and my system data on the color bar is really small. I only have 76 gb of 256 taken in memory.

This is exactly what I am having. I went to the Verizon store and they tryed all these things and more and couldn't get it to work. I was told go to the apple store. At first we thought it was bluetooth and connection to my garmin watch or to my 3rd generation airpods. turned bluetooth off didn't make a diffrerence it still did it. This is the most frustrating problems I have ever had with Apple.

Clear the Caches:

Clear the storage named "System Data" (formerly called "Other"). It basically contains unnecessary files such as caches that are used for system ease of use - all of which gather over time. And the iPhone just might have a few of these settings that need not be when they are. Here is how to rid of these: How to Clear "System Data" in your iPhone's Storage: - User Tips. Caches would be being used for remembrance of application use.
