usb keyboard not working on mac mini. it is an apple keyboard. worked for a minute and said "it could not recognize keyboard. i rebooted snf now nothing .

Try turning around the USB plug 180º in the port. Sometimes that helps.
Also, try other ports, the new mini has five. The two on the front are strictly USB, the three on the back do USB and Thunderbolt.
Any chance you can grab another usb keyboard a give a try with that? Even a pc keyboard will work.
When using a Windows keyboard on a Mac, the Windows key is used in place of the Mac’s Command (⌘) key, and the Alt key substitutes for the Mac’s Option (⌥) key.
Thanks, PCs have a way of making you seem foolish sometimes. I moved the USB to the front port and it worked.
For logistics reasons I wanted it in the back ports and moved it between the three with no luck. Thank again, Wally.
