How long does indexing on a new iPhone take?

Seasons greetings everyone, It’s Zachy. For the holidays, I got the new iPhone 16 Pro Max! I was wondering how long roughly it takes for it to finish indexing all my data, and when will I know the iPhone has returned to its normal conditions?

Indexing on the iPhone 16 Pro Max varies based on factors like internet speed and data volume.

  • Messages: Indexing messages may take a few hours, depending on the message count.
  • Photos: Indexing photos, including thumbnail generation and categorization, can take several hours to a few days, depending on the amount of data on iCloud. This process may continue incrementally in the background, especially with large libraries. Another factor affecting the duration is the time required to download the original high-resolution versions of photos and videos onto your device if you haven't opted for Optimized iPhone Storage. When Optimized Storage is turned on, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud, while space-saving copies are kept on your device.

I brought my messages down from 15 GB to 5 GB. My iPhone occasionally feels warm, usually when charging. I have noticed in the battery graph that the day before yesterday Home and Lock Screen consumed 28% battery, now down to 17% yesterday. We’ll have to keep an eye on it. Apple Support ran a diagnostics and the new iPhone’s hardware is functioning normally.
