I wasn’t on Low Data mode, only Medium, but General suddenly using 1.5GB of data in an hour has cost me a stupid amount of money
Why isn’t there a function to ask the user when consuming excessive data when abroad?? And what is General even doing with that?
Most apps were turned off in mobile services, as was background app refresh, and the most any one app used was 10-15MB

Every user has different needs and expectations. I would not like a nagging notification about my data usage. I take responsibility for my usage and understand how data works.
I understand you have different expectations and neither one of us is right or wrong. Apple and the cellular providers have their reasons for the options we currently have. But the carriers control almost all aspects of the mobile cellular data, they certainly don’t want and won’t create a notification for the data usage situation you experienced. Another provider might do differently.

Maybe you don’t travel much. You can opt in and out of automatic software updates, why not an optional alert for this?
