Screen Distance notifications not working on iPhone with Face ID

I’ve already checked that Face ID is functioning, the Screen Distance feature is turned on in settings, and my iPhone is updated to iOS 18.2. However, I’ve never received any notifications when holding the phone closer than the recommended distance. Is there a specific condition required for it to work?

According to Apple:

Turn Screen Distance on or off:

  1. Go to Settings ➢ Screen Time.
  2. Tap Screen Distance, then turn Screen Distance on or off.

With Screen Distance on, when you hold the screen too close to your face for an extended period, Screen Distance covers the screen with an alert, preventing you from continuing. When you move iPhone more than 12 inches away, you can tap Continue to resume using it.
