Back Camera not working on I phone 15 after iso 18.2 update

Since the 18.2 update, the camera on my iPhone 15 does not work. It takes pictures and stores them in my camera roll when I'm using the forward-facing screen. It does not take or store pictures when the back of the phone is pointed towards my target. Most times the screen remains black and lags when it does come on, again while using the back camera. I have reset multiple times and have done a force reset multiple times and all fail to resolve the issue. I don't want to go back to factory settings due to the mass amount of time it will take to get it back to where I want it, even with a backup. Something always goes wrong, and data and functionality of apps fail to restore. It's never as simple as they make it, which is why I use it at as a last resort.

Any help for this? Do I simply have to wait on Apple to send another update? Apple, please fix this problem.

So I did the erase. The phone is new like it comes from the box, no apps added and no restore done. Once it booted up I checked the phone. Camera does not work. I can’t help but believe it is an update issue. Thank you for your help and suggestions

Not knowing this, I've visited one of the Helsinki Elisa shops today, with an intention to buy a new phone and trade in the current iPhone (camera stopped working, passwords lost). The clerk was nice and explained that I shouldn't get new phone since today already, during the first two hours the shop was opened, there were three customers before me with the same issue. For all, issue started after updating to iOS 18. "Apple must fix this" the clerk said. "You better wait."

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

While I agree with some of what you said, the fact remains that the camera was working and storing images prior to the update and hasn’t worked since, leading to the conclusion that it was the update that caused this malfunction. Nothing works with the back camera, the flash, the storage , the simulated push button, nothing. This is a software issue, not a phone case issue, not a settings issue, unless the update created the settings to change which again makes it an update issue. I have looked at the settings and the ones available are the same as prior to the update.

Hi Rainer - I am on an iPhone 14 and have had the exact same issue. Since updating to 18.2 neither camera works - only shows a black screen. Sometimes the front facing camera works - sometimes with zoom available, and sometimes without. After a full phone reboot, I sometimes get 1 photo out of the rear camera, but then it stops working again. Definitely seems like an ios update issue. I have done a soft reboot, hard reboot and full restore of the phone with no success. Did you have any success in figuring out your challenge?
