iPhone 16 Pro Max display issue - green tint angle view

Hello, I just purchased a 16 Pro Max and I noticed a problem with the display; when you look at it from a different angle (different from looking perpendicularly at the screen) the screen has a green tint. Browsing the internet I found a relevant picture, posted by someone who had a similar problem.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? It's annoying, especially since it's a top of the range product.

I just hope it's not one of those cases where you report the problem to the service center and the feed-back will be: "the product is in perfect condition"

Hi,

Yes, I agree, this shouldn't happen to such a product (flagship for Apple). But I think a manufacturer of this size knows very well what it is launching out there on the market; otherwise it is serious issue inside Apple.

I also went to a service center and received the same feedback: the device is fine.

What is frustrating (but may also be a good thing) is that there are devices with displays which are "ok", out there on the market (as you say, with Samsung..).

What I can say is that I took the problem into my own hands: I ordered two more 16 PM/ 256, one Black and one Natural Titanium (order online to be able to easily return); the black one had the same problem but not as obvious as the first device; but the titanium one was perfect.

So, after 3 attempts, I managed to get to own a 16 PM with a display as it should be - normal for this type of product. Just a remark; the device whose display does not have a problem is dedicated to the German market (according to the code available in the phone "ZD/A"); it is possible that depending on the market/country, the quality may be different.

So, I solved my problem, but the manufacturer's problem remains unresolved.

Probably you have turned on Night Shift

  • Open Control Center. Firmly press the Brightness control icon, then tap to turn Night Shift on or off.
  • Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift. 2 On the same screen, you can schedule a time for Night Shift to turn on automatically and adjust color temperature.

Use Night Shift on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple ...

Hi Raduvlad,

I’ve just received my iPhone 16 Pro 256Gb and I have the same issue. Looking through the internet it doesn’t take long to find others on reddit with this issue.

It appears that iPhone 16’s with an LG manufactured panel/screen are affected whilst devices with Samsung manufactured screens seem to be fine.

I’ve talked to apple support today and they had not heard about it. I sent them a video of the issue and the operator agreed that there is a green hue but couldn’t confirm whether it’s a fault. It’s been escalated to the senior engineering team for review and comment. No answer back yet.

Really frustrated about the poor QC for such a high priced device. The green hue/tint on an angle is getting to my eyes…

I also went to an Apple certified reseller today and had a look at their display model off the same phone - it was fine. Checked the panel and it’s a Samsung.

Here are instructions for getting to your panel serial which then indicates what manufactured it.

You can find instructions on how to figure out the manufacturer here: https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone16Pro/comments/1gzgpin/iphone_16_pro_screen_manufacturer/

Here are the screen Manufacturer codes (I’ve got a GVC. Store had a G9N): https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone16Pro/comments/1g36x43/how_to_know_the_manufacturer_of_the_iphone_16_16/

And other people who got their phones exchanged 6 times already due to this plus a video of a LG vs Samsung side by side: https://www.reddit.com/r/iPhone16/comments/1fw5fkg/iphone_16_pro_samsung_vs_lg_display_differences/

P.S.: I currently prefer my iPhone 11 display solely due to this!

Hi, thanks for the advice & tips. I've already tried various settings; it doesn't work. It's a hardware problem, related to the quality of the panel/ display.

The only setting that helps is "dark mode"; this way you "hide" the poor quality of the screen; the problem is no longer visible, but it remains there.

I compared my 16 PM with 4 other 16 PM devices; one of the 4 had this problem.

I will go to an authorized service center; we'll see if they recognize this problem as a production quality issue.

I was curious to know if anyone else has encountered/noticed this problem.

By the way, does anyone know if there is a section where you can contact the manufacturer to report such problems?

Thanks!
