HomePod setup takes forever

I’m setting up a new HomePod and get through the initial questions however when the step gets to setting up iCloud it spins and takes a lot of time with no results. I’ve canceled out of set up after 45 minutes and over hour and retry with the same results, would love to hear some suggestions as to what could be causing the delays. Help!!
