News app will not load after update to ios 18.2

I recently updated my iPhone and iPad to 18.2. The iPhone works fine but the iPad has problems. It is a 7th generation iPad. When I try to open the news app the spinning circle just displays forever and the app never loads. I've powered off and rebooted the iPad 3 times but the app still won't finish loading. Originally the app store acted the same way but rebooting seems to have fixed it.


Is there any solution to the news app problem?

Are you experiencing any problems when using Safari to load web pages?


If Safari works fine, I would suggest Force Restarting the iPad, and if that does not resolve the problem, use a computer to update the iPad. If you do not have a computer, it can be done at an Apple Store. Both of those options are available in the link below. Previously problems had been reported with the News app when a VPN was involved, but that is not the case for you.

If you do have a problem loading web pages in Safari, then it would point to a network problem that may be able to be resolved by restarting you router or resetting your Network Settings on the iPad.

I talked with apple support. They had me uninstall and reinstall the app, that did not work. Then they had me uninstall and reinstall again and also reset my network connection. That worked but only temporarily. The second time I tried to open it again it would not load. I haven't had time to retry it or talk to support again. Maybe it will work for you and be a permanent fix.

I am NOT using a VPN, I just double checked.


This getting weirder. Before I checked the VPN usage I tapped the news icon and it opened with the greeting "Welcome to Apple News" as if I had just installed the app. I closed it and tried to reopen it and it never finished loading, just showed the buffering indicator. I shut it down again and when I reopened it I didn't even see the buffering indicator I had a blank white screen for about 30 seconds and then it just closed.

Safari works just fine.


I force restarted the ipad but it did not help. I then deleted the news app and force restarted the ipad and then reinstalled the news app. Just like I reported in another post the first time I opened the news app it loaded and I could read the articles, but when I shut it down and reopened the app it would not load.


I don't have a Mac or a PC, I run Linux. I probably can figure out how to use Linux, but right now, with the year end coming up, it's not worth the effort as I can read news on my iphone. When things settle down a little I will follow the instructions in the links you provided.

I just updated also, was hoping updating would fix it but it did not. I again tried what support told me to do. I deleted the news app and disconnected from my wifi network. Then I reconnected to my wifi and reinstalled the news app. Just like before the first time I tried the app it worked, but once I shut it down and reopened it the same thing happened. It would not load and just buffered forever.

Was using the ipad for something else and decided to try news again. It opened and I read some news and then shut it down. 10 minutes later I tried it and all it would do is buffer. Frustrating, if it was a computer there might be some log files or something to help troubleshoot it. The ipad is just a black box, I have no idea how to troubleshoot it.
