Unable to open News App on my iPad after iPadOS 18.2 update

After updating to ios 18.2 on both my iphone and ipad the iphone works fine but my ipad has had problems. My ipad is a 7th generation model.

After the update completed I could not view content in the news app. It just showed the loading message but would never finish loading. The app store also refused to load. I shut down the ipad and rebooted it. The app store then worked and the general speed of the ipad got better. The news app still refused to open. I tried rebooting the ipad a couple more times but the news app still will not open.

Any suggestions of what I need to do to get the news app working.
