Aggregate device volume issue

I have 2 USB microphones (one has two channels and one has one channel, not sure if this is important) with which I create an aggregate device via the MIDI app.

I then open iMovie and select the aggregate device as my input source.

The issue I am experiencing is that which ever microphone I have selected first in the aggregate device has very clear sound at a good volume, whilst the second mic in the list records at a level that is unusable for video content.

what am I missing?

Thanks for any help with this.

Update: I have figured out that whichever microphone I had 1st to the aggregate device is the one that is picked up in iMovie and the reason I thought the second device was so low was because it is still being picked up from the first device so I figured out that the second device in the list is actually not being picked up at all, although if selected individually it works fine.
