'No service' and random shutdowns in iPhone 13 post iOS 18.2 update

I currently have an iPhone 13 (2.5 years old), and on Friday night (12/13/24), I updated my phone to iOS 18.2. The following afternoon (12/14/24), my phone displayed "no service" and I could no longer receive or send calls or texts.

I took my phone to Verizon on Monday (12/16/24) and they gave me a new SIM card. Afterwards, my phone was able to make calls. However, shortly after this, it went back to "no service". I then converted to an eSIM. Again, I was able to make a call, but shortly afterwards, the phone went back to "no service."

I have reset the network settings, and restarted the phone many times. The employee at Verizon told me that if the phone was unable to connect to a tower after the eSIM was setup, then the phone is broken and will need to be replaced. My phone worked flawlessly before the update, and now, it says "no service", and has been randomly shutting down (screen goes black and I have to power it back on).

Did the latest update kill my phone? How do I fix these issues so I don't have to buy a new phone?

Possibly a failing battery.

Batteries degrade over time with usage due to chemical aging.

You can expect about a 1% drop per month with average use on an iPhone. This is an approximation, that is why it may be plus or minus a few percent on a month to month basis.

Apple recommends replacing it when the battery's health reaches 80%.

To check your battery health, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health.

UPDATE:

Things changed...

After a couple hours, the phone started acting up again. I called Apple, and they ran diagnostics on the phone and concluded that the phone had hardware damage. I was insistent that the update caused this, and after an almost hour long phone call, they offered to send me a replacement phone. Got the new phone a couple days after that, and sent the old one back.

Replacement phone has been working great ever since.

Exact same issue here in Montreal QC with iphone 13 and since ios 18.2.

I ran Apple diagnostics when Data connection lost had occur and it reported hardware failure. Visited Apple Store same day. They slso ran diagnostics but the data connection was active at the time so diagnostics reported no failure. Apple suggested carrier malfunction which I seriously doubt because my wife’s phone works fine. Carrier had me reset networking setup but i still have the issue. Data connection drops 4 to 5 times a day.

Where do you stand at this point with your replacement phone ? Was it still under warranty or Apple care ? Mine is not…
