I get emails from Apple Support. How do I know if they are legit?
  • In general, for Apple’s digital Store emails: Identify legitimate emails from the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support. It would be about things that you have purchased or subscribed to.
  • I don’t think Apple Support sends emails, unless you and the support agent recently had contact and agreed on that.
  • This forum can send emails about forum threads that you have participated in and/or are following. But that has sender “Apple Support Community”, so that is not strictly Apple Support. You can manage these here.
  • Apple may send marketing emails. See here on how to manage that. These would be promotional, e.g. services that they think you might be interested in. Or reminders to promo offers that you might be eligible for.

What was the email about? Did it request that you take some kind of action?

Personal messages would address you by name, as far as Apple would know that from your account. Mass emailings (that apply to many users) could say Dear user, or Dear customer, or something similar.

If you can read email headers, then see if it originates from the apple.com domain. The From-address is not an indicator of truth per se.
