Changing Siri voice on my iPhone post iOS 18.2 update.

I am wondering if anyone else is having a problem with their 18.2 update completely changing Siri’s voice, tone and speech? It refuses to change back. I am super upset by the change and the only information I can find is that they are trying to make her voice more “gender neutral”. I am autistic & have CPTSD. The new voice sounds rude and has made me cry 3 times today. I delivery drive for a living and spend 6-8 hours a day with my maps on. I cannot handle the new voice and maps wont even let me turn off the voice. How is taking away options for voice style inclusive? If this isn’t fixed I may have to download (gasp) google because I can’t and won’t put up with it.

Re: "Siri voice change update 18.2"

Sorry to hear you've been going through so much, due to a Siri Voice change.

Re: "It refuses to change back"

Wondering where you tried unsuccessfully to change the setting.

Maybe see if Apple Support's online article for iOS18 (link below) can help:

Change Siri settings on iPhone - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"Change the voice for Siri

You can change the Siri voice (not available for all languages).

  1. Go to Settings  > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri).
  2. Tap Voice, then choose a different variety or voice."

Re: "I cannot handle the new voice and maps wont even let me turn off the voice".

Above article also says you can:

Change how Siri responds

Siri can respond out loud or silently (with text onscreen).

You can also see your request onscreen.

  1. Go to Settings  > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri).
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Change when Siri provides voice responses: Tap Siri Responses, then choose an option below Spoken Responses.
    • Always see the response from Siri onscreen: Tap Siri Responses, then turn on Always Show Siri Captions.
    • See your request onscreen: Tap Siri Responses, then turn on Always Show Request.

Hope there's something helpful here, so you can take control of the situation.

All the best :-)
