Apple News Fails to Load After iOS 18.2 Installation

If you have a VPN App or profiles installed, or a security/AV/firewall App such as Norton, these may be interfering with your iPad's network stack. The resolution is usually simple; if installed, you may need to fully remove (if only temporarily) the associated Security App and/or VPN.

If this resolves your issue, the VPN and/or security App can be reinstated after the connectivity problem has been resolved.

I ended up "solving" by reverting from 18.2 to 18.1.1. If you go this route, it involves multiple steps and, depending on how many apps you have ("had") on your iPad, lots of time. The one step not to forget at the end is, turn off automatic updates in Settings, or you will be back in the soup.

Ok, I had the same problem as my iPad would not load my apps after up grading to 18.2. I tried all the suggestions posted in this forum and they did not work.

So as I have an iPhone with identical apps that were on my iPad, I backed up to iCloud, then reset the iPad and deleted everything. Then pairing my iPhone to the iPad I uploaded from iCloud.

I then re-installed missing apps and resigned in to most apps.

my apps have not lost any of my personal details and all is well. I now have 18.2 and more free space.

I am glad this worked for you, but if I understand correctly, you ended up with an iPad just as it was after you onboarded iPadOS 18.2. This would not solve OP's or my or others' issue, which is that iPadOS 18.2 seems to block loading of Apple News. As for the backup idea possibly making downgrading to 18.1.1 less burdensome because you can get your apps back from the backup, that does not work. You can't use a backup for the apps-only if the OS of the backup (18.2) is more advanced than the one you are trying to pull the backup into (18.1.1).

The problem seems to be a bad update to 18.2. I chatted with Tech support and (here's the funny part) they said it was an App problem and I should contact the app supplier. It took 3 attempts to get him to understand that Apple News is an Apple App. All he could do is get a real tech to phone me. Like others here, I can get it to work only if I delete and reinstall the News App. But it fails the following morning.

Yesterday and today at around 10 AM news app downloaded and later day would not . Aldo did not download earlier in AM either day. Thinking of deleting app altogether and cancelling subscription to news plus and searching for an app that will consistently download

When submitting a Bug Report, always ensure that you include details of your iPad model and installed version of iPadOS within the body-text of your report. Don't rely upon the pick-list - as the list rarely includes the most recently released versions.

For what it's worth, I read today that iPad Gen7 will not be able to take on iOS (iPadOS) 19 when it comes out next year. That's not necessarily end of life for the device; I imagine we could keep using iPadOS 18.1.1 or 18.3 for a good while.

Yes I saw that article too. I’m not surprised. I have the last intel imac, and I figure it is about at the end of its upgrade life. Apple seems to be going all in on this AI. So far, I can’t see it. Making summaries of posts and a emoji app doesn’t thrill me yet.

Me too. I connected my 7th gen ipad to my macbook air, opened itunes, selected ipad, redid authorization, played with various book settings, and books came back to life on ipad. I screwed around with this so much that i really don’t know how it got fixed…

Yeah, I did all those but may have stumbled onto a way to get it back. Clear history in Apple News. In settings under your apple account turn media purchases off wait 15 or more secs then click back on.

I built on a few of the previous posts here, and a little trial and error. I have had one "spin" event since (after about 3 hours) but repeating the steps worked to bring it back again. Glad it helped!

I followed your instructions, and it worked. But when I closed the app and came back in, it does not work. The spinning symbol just keep turning and turning until it finally closes the app.

This is “another” me too post , where I haven’t been able to access Apple News since the lastest updates.
