Apple News Fails to Load After iOS 18.2 Installation

I am experiencing this issue as well. I turned in a report to Apple as well and we’ll see if/when anything is done to fix the problem. I’m just wondering what it is with 7th generation iPads that seem to have problems with updates. A while back Apple Music was not working on my iPad after an update. I came here and many others with the 7thG iPads were having the same problem. News works fine on my iPhone. Strange this particular iPad model is so vulnerable to problems.

An interesting thing about this bug is that news will load sometimes. Maybe for a few minutes to the longest I have had it on is 2 hours before it crashed. It may be able to be fixed in the app itself. Apple would never tell us. While all of us 7gen iPadders are here, how is everyone’s battery doing. Mine doesn’t last very long anymore about 3 hours and it will be down in the 30% range.

I thought the recent iPadOS 18.2.1 would have fixed this problem. Apple News still will not load on my 7th Gen iPad running iPadOS 18.2.1. The iPad was my portal to Apple News. The only solution is to cancel my subscription until Apple fixes it, which may or may not happen. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

I followed your instructions RCF001, and it worked. But when I closed the app and came back in, it does not work. The spinning symbol just keep turning and turning until it finally closes the app.

Hi @Frustratedreader1944 - I just checked that problem out, and you're right, if you quit the app, the problem comes back the next time you start up. So if you want the fix to stay, you have to not quit News, but leave it running in the background

Spend over 5 hours with Apple and problem is UNRESOLVED, they acknowledge this is a problem. My situation occurred after the iOS 18 install.

our household is on Family Apple plan includes the news and now one of us can’t use.

no refund unless we cancel the entire family plan

Was told to await a forthcoming fix without an etc…..

An idea: There may be enough of us here with paid Apple News subscriptions that Apple may compensate us with a free period of use. If you haven't done so already, send in feedback to Apple Apple Feedback page to go "on the record" that you have this issue.

Can’t even try fixes if app won’t launch! I have been trying!

Sure, it works on my iPhone 14 Pro, but I want to read it on my iPad 7th generation.

seems to be specific to 7 gen. I wonder how many are out in the wild. how much effort apple will put into solving. I figured we were getting to the end of our update life.

My wife has the same issue with her 7th Gen iPad ever since upgrading to 18.2 . Come on Apple sort it out ASAP…..please :-)

Got my hopes up last night but have to agree, this does not work. App has to load before widget will work. Good try though.
