Why is my iPhone 16 stuck on the "Hello" screen?

I was setting up my new device trying to transfer from my old xs max. Eventually the new phone requires to update with the new ios 18.2 and was taking too long. while it was updating, i restarted the device because i got impatient. Now that the new device have already known my passcode, it's stuck on the "hello" and can't get any further to using the new phone. when i try to force shut down, it just reopens to the "hello" while having my passcode and can't swipe up to unlock it. is there a way to overcome this situation?

Same thing happened with me on my 16 Pro. Went through the transfer process up to the update to 18.2 step and it got hung there. It was 2 hours on the update and was quite warm so I rebooted the phone and then the hello screen thing.

I rebooted it several times... up/down volume and the button on the right. But same thing, unable to interact with hello screen enough to unlock the phone. I could see the num pad briefly but it would go back to scrolling hello in various languages. I could tap on the I icon in the bottom right but that was about it.

Put it into restore mode and my PC/Itunes was not seeing the phone. Restarted it a few times and nothing. Called my carrier support, then they passed me to Apple support. Said I needed to get another phone... so sending the faulty one back and had to place another order to get a hopefully working phone.

I was able to go to a local carrier store and they put cell service back on my old phone. I spent an afternoon/evening messing with trying to transfer to my new phone.

If you're reading this, my advice is do a few forced restarts. Then try the restore with iTunes as noted above, but if that doesn't work, don't spend hours on it like I did.

Hey,

I had the same issue, but solved it by continuing to keep the power button pressed, even after the apple logo appeared. Eventually it came up with a screen showing to plug the iPhone in to the laptop, with an address at the top: support.apple.com/iphone/restore

I dutifully plugged my device in, and entered the address. Nothing happened. So I force restarted the phone _again_ keeping my finger on the power button until the restore screen re-appeared. This time, the mac recognised the device, and asked me if it wanted me to allow it to connect. I did, and then it brought up a finder window, with the phone as an attached device. The mac popped up a window saying that the device needed an 'update'. I pressed on the update button, and it downloaded the software to the mac, and is currently restoring the phone from this method. If you are a PC user, I believe you need an app called 'Apple Devices'; however, all the info seems to be in this article:

If the Restore screen appears on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch – Apple Support (UK)

For me, the most trouble I had was getting the phone to connect to the mac - it looks like you may need to go through the iteration of holding the power button twice to convince the computer and iPhone to start talking.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Lee
