After installing ios version 18.1.1 on both iphone and ipad, when I want to edit a video on the ipad taken with the iphone, the response is that the video is unsupported and therefore cannot be edited. Prior to this update I didn’t have this problem.

Hmm. I just tried it. I took a video on my phone. I tied transferring by AirDrop and with an iCloud sync, and in both cases I could edit the video on my iPad. I adjusted shadows and highlights, and I cut out the first few seconds-- it seemed to work OK for me. The extension on the file is ".mov," which seems normal.
Any idea what could be the difference?
Have you tried a forced re-start?

Are you saying that it works on the iPhone just fine? just not on the iPad?
Here is even worse! I cannot edit videos recorded on the same iphone (18.1.1) a few minutes earlier, and already once edited! ios is getting more buggy by the second! And the UI is all over the place… to many changes all at the same time. I’ll adapt but less tech/older members of my family (and some friends) are confused, lost and irritated…
I haven’t been able to find the file extension on the iphone or ipad for any of my photos or videos. The filename given in the information tab is something like IMG_5004. When I download a video from icloud onto my pc, the file extension shows up on the pc as mp4.
I’ve been having this problem too. Just done yet another update and it’s still not fixed. Why aren’t Apple responding to this issue? 😡 I’m recording on IPhone 13 and trying to edit on iPad 10. It will edit on my iPhone fine. I’m sharing the file through iCloud. Videos recorded on my iPad can be edited on my iPad.

I created a video with my ipad. Afterwards I couldn’t edit it. However, on my iphone I could.
