Fingerprint recognition issues on iPadOS 18.1.1

Some users just have difficulty using TouchID. The causes for of TouchID being unreliable for some users - and not others - are many. Whilst not an exhaustive list, possibilities include:

• Very high humidity (“sweaty” fingers)
• Very low humidity (excessively dry skin)
• Poor fingerprint ridge-detail (excessive hand washing - or exposure to abrasive material, damaging fingerprint detail)
• Physical injury (cuts or splits to the fingertip)

If you have naturally dry skin, try using a “light” (non greasy) and easily absorbed skin moisturiser.

If not, then you'll need to take your iPad to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service center for diagnosis.

Yes they do; the current iPad Air, iPad mini and the base-model iPad all have Touch ID.

They didn't; David M is mistaken. And in any case, that wouldn't affect an existing iPad with Touch ID. See my initial reply to your question.

Without exception, the only models of iPad that have ever featured FaceID are the iPad Pro.
