Mac MINI M4 - Phillips 6000 monitor with built in webcam - webcam connection issue

Is there a fix for connecting this monitor to my Mac mini so that I can use the webcam for zoom, team meets, google meets, FaceTime? Monitor connects GREAT! No web cam functionality... Please and thank you!

A single USB-C/Thunderbolt cable connection is hit and miss, mostly miss with most aftermarket displays that have accessories like Web Cams and down stream USB ports.

You will most likely need to use two cables for that Display and it's accessories.

1) A high speed HDMI cable or better yet, a high speed USB-C to DisplayPort cable for video.

(using a USB-C to DisplayPort is better for wide screen and odd resolution displays)

2) A USB-C to USB Up cable to run the Web Cam and the other down stream USB ports.

Here is what Phillips emailed me:

Thank you for contacting Philips Monitors Service and Support.

Please verify the following things about your set up:

1. The monitor has to be connected directly into your computer. If your computer does not have a USBC port that supports dp-alt mode, you will have to use two simultaneous connections: one for video (HDMI/DP), and one USBC from the monitor to USB to your computer. Please make sure that the USBC to USBA adapter cable you use supports power and video delivery.

2. If your computer or laptop has a built in camera, you may have to disable it from the computer's device manager.

3. Remember that for the webcam to be on, it has to be out and facing the front.

For more information about how to set up your webcam, please refer to page 11 and 15 of your user manual: https://www.documents.philips.com/assets/20230614/943b77569c5649d6bef1b021005a8488.pdf

Please let us know if the details above help with your issue.

HDMI is for video and audio only, no support for camera or hub. You’ll need to either add a USB C for camera and hub functions or replace the HDMI for one cable everything. Try both variants to see which provides the video resolution you want (important given your display is extra wide i.e. non standard). If you simply add the C, you can choose the display HDMI or C from settings, so that’s probably the wtg.

Note that for Camera apps to work, they must be individually enabled within System Settings > Privacy > Camera. Usually it’ll be through a System prompt when the app is invoked.

If going with both cables, check and set the appropriate settings for Input and Output under Settings > Sound.

I think that’s enough homework for this lecture huh 😉…do update.
