Can not change permissions on external RAID that uses OWC Softraid v 8.3

I have en external 8 drive RAID 5 drive all of a sudden I can only read from it and can not write to it. Ran disk utility first aid and it says can not fix. I have tried the usual get info and can change the permissions of the volume but not the enclosed folders. There is no place it says to do the same to all enclosed folders. I have a support into OWC but have not heard from them yet, hoping I can get a quick fix answer here.

if Disk Utility cannot fix it, the drive has onboard Directory errors [repair disk/FirstAid does not even inspect for data errors] and may need to be ERASED and re-imaged from your backups.

Often, a drive with Directory errors is made Read-only to reduce further data damage and file losses.

I found a solution, I ran Disk Warrior on it and it fixed it. It was suggested by OWC.

Note: Disk Warrior will not at this time work on any disks using the APFS format. They said a new version coming will fix that.

Fortunately my RAID was in HFS+.

when a 250 GB drive cost over US$1000, Disk Warrior was a great solution.

... but the advent of cheaper drives in general, and encrypted drives that lose their keys and other drives that suddenly die for no particular reason, the "PRIZE" in all of this has come to be seen as your DATA, not your drive.

The current Best Practice is Backups.

I was afraid of that. The time it is going to take to that might stretch into days, it has about 14TB of files on it. Thanks for the feedback.
