Compatibility of 2017 iMac Pro SSD with 2019 MacPro

Hi,

will an Apple iMac Pro 27" 2017 SSD 512 GB 656-0061A EMC 3197 flash drive work in my 2019 MacPro?

It looks like they have the same pinout.

Thank you.

MacBook Pro from 2019 uses T2 chip, which uses a small portion of built-in storage as an extension of the Secure Enclave. If you attempt remove or replace its built-in storage, you've left half of its brain on the table, and it can't ever function as a Mac again.

The drive modules use the drive controller built into the T2 chip, to preclude ANY direct writing to the devices. The module has ONLY the storage devices, NO controller. So these are NOT standard drive parts.

Apple may offer some drive upgrade swaps as a service, but NOT as parts, because information belonging to the T2 chip must be set aside and restored.
