Issues with Inconsistent Performance and Delays on macOS Sequoia

Live Text is working very poorly. When this feature was first introduced (I can’t remember which OS version), it worked perfectly. However, after the very first update, it started functioning inconsistently.

I work with a large number of photos containing text, which I often need to extract, and this feature made my workflow much easier. The issue is that when I open a series of photos to extract text, the feature works flawlessly on the first photo. But as soon as I move to the next one, text recognition stops working. I found through trial and error that flipping the image activates recognition again.

With the latest update to macOS Sequoia, the situation has gotten even worse. Now, after flipping the image, I also have to wait for a while before text recognition kicks in.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to fix or improve it?

There's your problem. When you use your computer for your livelihood, it's a tool, not a toy. So when Apple comes out with new "playground" features, you have to be very critical about when to apply update, or even if you should. Ideally, you will have a test computer that is as new, or newer, than your production system so you can test your workflow in betas and/or new versions.

Nope. Working fine here.

Restore your computer to the last known, good working version. Then start the process I described above.

Most likely, the problem isn't with Sequoia at all. You probably have one or more 3rd party system modification apps that are incompatible and causing various problems across the system. What those are, I can't begin to guess. They are extremely popular and cause the vast majority of Mac problems.

However, I accept that no one accepts this explanation. Instead, people uniformly blame Sequoia. It is the worst OS version that Apple has ever released. What was Apple thinking? This is a disaster. All users should restore their system back to Sonoma, which had zero problems and was the best OS version that Apple had ever released.

Next fall, I'll take that snippet above, replace Sequoia with whatever Apple names macOS 16, and replace Sonoma with Sequoia and it will be universally accepted and praised. Indeed, in Fall 2025, Sequoia will be the Gold Standard of all operating system versions. The best there ever was. Yet, for some reason, everyone will be flocking to install macOS "Redwood" or whatever.
