How to fix Bluetooth Mouse issues on macOS 15.1

I recently updated to Mac OS 15.1. Noticed my bluetooth mouse is very buggy. One click reacts as a double click. Selected text or files keep getting dropped. Some right click functions are extremely slow to react. Very frustrating using bt mouse! Any ideas to fix this?

To put matters more correctly, in Microsoft Windows there is a "right click " that is available for a mouse with two paddles

In macOS, there is a Secondary Click

So, the question becomes

Who is the Maker of the BT Mouse ?

Does this mouse require a Bluetooth dongle ?

Is there some Third Party Software from the maker of this mouse required to enable this Right Click function ?

At what Polling Rate is this mouse rate to Poll at

The Builtin Bluetooth module on the computer is rated and capped at 125 Hz.

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference - Apple Support

You might have a look at the move article. Noting that WiFi has a 2 GHz band that CAN overlap with Bluetooth frequencies and interfere, depending on configuration. Also, the Bluetooth specification says up to seven devices can be connected but Apple has recommended in the past no more than three. Do you have more than three in the vicinity? If you are using one mouse and charging the other, if both are "on" that is two right there, plus maybe a keyboard, nearby cell phone, iPad, other computer, Apple watch, Apple TV ... these are all on Bluetooth.

For the mouse problem, try replacing the wireless mouse with a wired one (they are still available and very cheap, we have several in boxes around the house). If the operation is smooth, that implicates the Bluetooth RF link or possibly the mouse itself (but since you see this on multiple mouse devices, it seems a broken mouse is unlikely here).

Some have blamed Sequoia 15.1 for this but keep in mind when upgrading the MacOS it is like a "reset" and specific channels used for WiFi, Bluetooth etc. can be cleared and reconnect, maybe differently than before. Also, other appliances now use Bluetooth, e.g. refrigerators, light bulbs, security cameras, and microwaves emit 2 GHz RF which can interfere as well. One possible test for RF interference is to remove all Bluetooth devices from the Bluetooth device list, connect just two, move the computer to a more isolated room and if possible connect to router via ethernet.

I bought a newer model bt mouse from the same supplier and it seems to have resolved the issue. I guess the older mouse had outdated firmware. Thanks

Ah, this " outdated firmware "seems to confirm.

The BT Mouse does not come from Apple

Oh well, luck for the User ( you ) " it seems to have resolved the issue. " - for now

I have a newer Magic Mouse from 2023 and a Magic Mouse 2 from before that, that I alternate between all the time when one needs to be charged... both are doing exactly the same things as well... very buggy. Double clicks drop on me in the middle of trying to do something, selected text and dragging doesn't work in the first try a lot of times, basically any function is hit n miss and most likely has to be redone a 2nd or 3rd time before it grabs on... and mouse gliding is even on the fritz sometimes, seems slower than normal.

2 Apple Magic Mice used on two different M2 and M4 Machines

Each with Sequoia 15.1 work exactly as they are designed to work

By the bye, it would seem reasonable to conclude, OP may have been using a Third Party Mouse Not a Apple Magic Mouse

You should consider the good advise from @steve626 and the helpful link they have provided

OMG that fixed my issue. After updating to 15.1.1 my Magic Mouse was acting up, lagging, jerking, click not working, etc. It was like hair or something was caught in the mouse. I cleaned my mouse and still same issue. So I bought a new Apple Magic Mouse and same issue.

Saw your post and tried turning off my track pad and sure enough mouse starting working perfect. Hope that helps someone.

ok you're onto something with this... I tried turning off all the features of the trackpad completely, although I don't agree this is the best option as I use mine as a backup frequently... but then also noticed a new setting of "natural scrolling" on both the mouse and the trackpad options that must be new... I turned it on with my Magic Mouse 2023 mouse settings after removing the trackpad completely and gave it a whirl... definitely could see a much smoother scrolling and clicking was quite a bit better, but I felt it wasn't quick anymore with how I had the speed set for my mouse pointer... so I turned natural scrolling back off, added the trackpad features back on (cause I knew I wasn't gonna leave it that way), then coincidentally adjusted a few settings on my mouse options and turned natural scrolling back on and tried it again... and wow it was fixed! Did a reboot with startup disk and still working properly! Not sure what setting(s) within the mouse and trackpad settings is causing the glitch but I've been battling this issue for several months (see my complaints above)... just turning settings on and off, changing a few options, and turning on natural scrolling fixed the problem for me! However, I've not tried my other mouse... I may have to repeat the process with my other Magic Mouse 2 from 2022... if I do I will come back and update you... now this will be a test to see if it holds onto the fix or if it starts acting up again...

ok worked great for a few days and then it started jumping again on me, played around with the settings again to see if it eliminates the problem... the fix I finally had after several months did not last long... hoping resetting my mouse settings and trackpad settings helps! I did shut off natural scrolling and then turned it back on in the process, so we'll see what happens!
