Downloaded document won't open on my Mac mini

I downloaded a document and I see it in the downloads. It is in the Dock but it won't open for viewing on the screen even though it appears to be open "somewhere". This also applies to Finder. It is open in the dock but the window does not appear on the screen. Thanks.

You need to tell us what the downloaded document was. Is it a Word document or something else? In order to be able to open certain documents you must have the app which they were created in installed. Maybe you do not. Finally, any icons which are located in the Dock are what we call an alias. (In effect, copies of the original icon.)
