My new iPhone 16 pro will not let me choose one of my downloaded songs as an alarm sound. Is this a new change or can this be fixed? I have gone through all settings and watched several YouTube videos and all seem to show that it is supposed to work as it did on my previous iPhone.

FWIW, it's working for me on my iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.1. So if you're current with iOS, then if it's a bug, it not a universal one. Just to check, the track(s) you're trying to select show and play successfully in the Library in the Music app, yes?
I've had exactly the same problem The musical alarm worked on my previous iPhones but not on my new 16 Pro. Did all the things recommended and had a meeting with a "Guru" at the local Apple Store (who said it was a software bug that they would report).
Installed IOS 18.1. that didn't fix it either.
Then changed the audio quality from "Lossless" to a lower quality - and it seems to work! TaDa!!!
It can be any song in your music app that is downloaded. I met with an apple genius on the phone and we fixed it. It was a setting in the music app. Lossless had to be off for it to work.

Troubleshooting iPhone 16 Alarm Sounds:
Three Things to do:
A. Start with a Restart:
Restart your iPhone, and see if it then is fixed.
B. View Apple Support:
C. Report this to Apple:
Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue. Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.
Thank you for your response and the links. I have already done A and B. I posted here to see if it is something with just my phone or if others are experiencing this before I go to Support for help or reporting the bug.

Is the downloaded song a Ringtone, or just a song. I believe it needs to be a Ringtone in order to choose it as an Alarm tone.
Can you give more specifics about the steps you took with the Apple genius to fix it? I have the same issue.
