Why do I get error "Writing Tools is unavailable" when opening Apple Intelligence?

Have you gone through this link to ensure you meet EVERY qualification to get Apple Intelligence --> How to get Apple Intelligence - Apple Support (CA)

For example:

• The language must be set to one supported for Apple Intelligence
• Apple Intelligence is not yet available in the EU, but should be coming in April
• You can't be in China or your phone can't have been manufactured for the China Market, as Apple Intelligence isn't approved in China or for phones manufactured for China.

The most effective way to get help is to contact AppleSupport or to make an appointment at the Genius Bar in your nearest Apple Store.

For Mac users follow this.

1. Update the MacOS
2. Install brew if not installed - https://brew.sh/
3. It will automatically install or update Xcode
4. Reboot the system

Now Apple Intelligence will work!!!!

Note: Siri language and sytem region primary language should be the same

I'm kind of a Mac-spert. I'd say that is due to a failed update in some way.

Do you have an intel or M-series based Mac?

Have you applied any third party "tweaks" to your Mac if you're on an M-Series? (E.g, dual booting linux, editing firmware, themes, etc.)

If you're on an M-Series, go to recovery and try changing Secure Boot to the other option and then try an update.

I'm not extremely well-versed on newer Macs, but I know quite a bit about it.

And for a quick test, boot into diagnostics and see if it spits anything out at you.

I know it used to throw a power error at you if you don't have it plugged in, but I no longer get an error if I leave it unplugged, so if you're using diagnostics while not plugged in, ignore the power error.

There is no fix. Apple Intelligence is not available to EU countries until April when it is released for EU countries.

For me I found that when proofing docments of any size, if the document had rows of numbers without spacing the proofing tool always errored. For example 1,3,5,6,7,10. Yet it didn't mind complex URLs. I suggest trying elimination to see if there is anything peculiar in your document that trips the writing tool.

Did you enable Apple Intelligence in the System Settings?

Same but on 16 pro max . I have developer access for years . The error on the phone is “ writing tools unavailable for this content” where it had worked before every time.

I did link my ChatGPT developer account as I thought I might get a better ai experience.

my theory is it’s just now that more people have access to apples ai they are having some server problems .

when I first fired up the 18 beta it only gave me the error occasionally. It’s too bad because it’s really been stellar. I can say they have adddee a button it seems since the ai button to the keyboard has came about it’s been not working . Just got the latest beta and sadly the same . It did fix YouTube not working .

I get this message too but for me I believe the problem lies in the fact that I don't have a WiFi connection and for all the features to be downloaded requires a WiFi connection. In settings, I have this message, "Apple Intelligence will download later when this iPad is connected to Wi-Fi. Some Apple Intelligence and Siri features may be unavailable until the download is complete."

It did the same thing to me on my iPhone 16 Pro Max until a few days later when I realized I had to connect to Wi-Fi again and wait for the AI update. The AI update is in the artificial intelligence settings, and it will show you waiting for download.

iOS 18.3 became available this morning. I installed it and bingo - Ai Writing Tools work again on my iPhone 16 Pro. This suggests to me that I'll have to wait for similar on MacOS which is still returning the same error.

I’ve forcefully closed all instances of writing tools, and now the message changes. This issue only occurs in Apple apps and only when I select the “Rewrite” option. Furthermore, not all text within the same Mail message displays this error. 😩 I can continue typing if I ignore the error. I was able to use it on this text 😮
