Browsing local sites broken with Sequoia

Issue: Can not browse local web servers.

Result when browsing any local web server:

-Via Chrome:

This site can’t be reached

Check if there is a typo in xxxxx.xxxxx.local.DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

-works via Safari:

FACTS:

  • Local web servers are OK. There are several. No recent changes to web servers.
  • Issue only seen on Macs updated to Sequoia.
  • Not an issue on Macs still on previous versions of MacOS. eg. Sonoma, Ventura
  • Not an issue on computers running other OS's, eg Windows, Linux.
  • All endpoint computers (Macs, Windows, Linux) receive DHCP IP's and settings, so all point to same DNS servers.

MacOS Version: Sequoia 15.1 (current latest version)

Chrome: 130.0.6723.70 (Official Build) (x86_64) (current latest version)

Safari: Version 18.1 (20619.2.8.11.10). (current latest version)

Issue has been noted in initial release of Sequoia,

and some report that Sequoia 15.1 resolved the issue.

However, this is not always the case, as I am seeing firsthand.

Any advise on steps to resolve or workarounds would be appreciated.
