iMac as external monitor
I have an old iMac (Mid 2011) 27in. with Intel i5 Processor running macOS Sierra 10.12. Can I use it as an external monitor with my MacBook Pro, M3 running Sonoma 14.2
there are third party non target display options though
the performance is likely worse that target display at least with the wireless options
also your imac would be using a lot! more power than if you just bought an external 27" monitor
