Pages and Keynote are not accepting text gifts from each other

I'm running Keynote 12.2.1 and Pages 13.1

My ability to copy from one to the other going in either direction has ceased to function.

Is there a newer version of Keynote I should have? I've seen on the forum that there have been incompatibility problems between the two if the versions aren't in sync. I've had this issue before and had a workaround but then it seemed to be fixed.

I'd rather not take the extra step of pasting my text elements to an intermediary like Notes or Text Edit.
