Trying to do first backup to time capsule, left it running over night and it stated has another 3 days to go!. Read somewhere to stop Nortons could help, did that and made no difference. Connect direct via cat5e cable and also wireless at 5GHz. Is there any settings in Airport Utility I can change to make it faster or any other ideas?

Simply moving Norton to the trash or turning it off will not remove the files that are causing the problem. To further follow up with what could be slowing down the backup, post the free EtreCheck report using the Additional Text option when posting. The report contains no personal information.
