Is it possible to render a video in phone aspect ratio? I am trying to produce videos for TikTok Tok and cannot figure out how to do so.

Hi,

Assuming that the video originally was recorded with vertical aspect ratio ondrag the iPhone, there are three ways to export it as a vertical video without black bars around it.

The first way is to rotate the video to horizontal in the timeline, using the rotate rectangles in the Crop controls. Export it to your desktop in horizontal configuration.

Then use QuickTimePlayer to rotate it right side up again. You will have a vertical video without black bars.

The second way is to create the Movie as a New App Preview. Go to the projects browser screen (where your projects are displayed as icons) and select File/New App Preview. A screen will open that looks exactly like an ordinary project screen, except that it has fewer options. Import your vertical video into the timeline. Then export it to your desktop. The result will be a vertical video without black bars.

The third way is to export the video from your project to your desktop. It will display as a vertical video, but with black bars around it to make it fit iMovie's 16:9 horizontal aspect ratio. To get rid of the black bars, open it in QuickTimePlayer. Then do Command-Shift-5 to open the control box at the bottom of your screen.

Then click on the Record Selected Portion rectangle and select-drag to select only the video portion, eliminating the black bars. After drag-selecting, start the movie playing and click on "Record" in the control box. When the movie reaches its end, to stop recording click on the little white box in the black circle at the top of your screen.

You will now have on your desktop a screen recording of your video without black bars.
