I have my photos in the photos app on an external hard drive. I recently upgraded to the latest MacBook Air and it seems as I go to copy photos from my hard drive that they have all been resized? What can I do to fix this problem - I would not have thought it was the best idea to export an unmodified photo? is there a trick please

How do you "go to copy photos from your hard drive"? Why are the steps you take to do this?
Have you explored the options in the File -> Export dialogue? What do you mean by "size"? The dimensions of the image in pixels? Or the file size measured in kilo- or mega bytes? What format are these images?
