I have a new iPhone 16. I have it set to take ProRaw photos. I can see the photo is ProRaw. But when I airdrop it to my Mac I get a JPEG. I have not edited the photo. I took the photo and immediately AirDropped it.

I don’t use iCloud Photos. I found that it was uploading photos all the time and killing the battery.
I have been traveling for many years and manage the photos on my Mac. I keep most recent travel on my phone. Then copy them to the Mac for editing/ posting and presentations. I want to be able to transfer the originals.
Consider using a method other than AirDrop to accomplish your objective.

Use a RAW file as the original in Photos on Mac - Apple Support
Try changing:
Settings > Apps > Photos > [Transfer to Mac or PC] to “Keep Originals”.
That is the way it was set, for all the good it does.
If you use iCloud Photos and your iPhone is low on storage, check the relevant setting in the Photos area for that situation (“Download and Keep Originals”).
Sharing ProRaw photos to Mac - Result is a JPEG.
