Subtitles disappearing in Keynote after DVD ripping

Which program is your favorite for copying a DVD to your hard drive for insurance? I recently used MDRP to copy a DVD, then Handbrake to make specific clips from the copy, and then when I inserted (embedded) the clips in a Keynote presentation (for PRIVATE family use only!!!) the subtitles disappeared! The subtitles are perfectly clear when I play the clips directly in VLC, but disappear in the embedded Keynote slide.

Subtitles are not part of the movie image frame. They are a separate text track that is overlaid in real-time on top of the video image.


Clearly Keynote is importing the video stream and ignoring the text/subtitle layer.


I don't see an option for this, other than Keynote -> Provide Keynote Feedback and asking Apple to support subtitle tracks on imported movies.
