dear all,
since the latest upgrade in macOS I am not able to open xlsx nor docx files with numbers resp pages?
I do not want to purchase ms office as it is too tedious and taken over

Working fine here with Numbers 14.2 running under macOS 15.01.
How are you trying to open them? I found the .xls or .xlsx file in Finder, right-clicked, and chose Open With > Numbers.app.
Have you tried restarting your Mac?

no it does not work as it does not recognise the xlsx nor docx files in numbers resp. pages
i.e. neither by "open with" nor wishing the app by "open file"
I run numbers version 14.2 (7041.0.109)
I restart my Mac nearly daily
the same is on my iOS devices since the upgrade

You don't see the .xlsx files in Finder?
If you do see them, select one (in Finder, not Numbers), right-click, choose Open With and choose Numbers.app.
