How to unlock firmware password

I bought a used MacBook Retina A1534 2017 in 2022. During operation, a battery failure occurred and, worried that the information on the MacBook would be given to strangers, I decided to do a remote erase, but after installing a new battery, I encountered the fact that the MacBook has a firmware password that cannot be reset in recovery mode, due to the fact that the password entry window appears before entering recovery mode. Now I can’t really use the MacBook. The person from whom I bought the MacBook says that he does not remember the password. What should I do? Is it possible to somehow reset the firmware password myself? Thank you in advance for any help.

At this point you're probably out of luck. There is no way you can reset the firmware password. Only Apple could do that, and they will only do so for the original owner and only if he can provide the original receipt as proof of ownership. After two years whether the owner will give you your money back or be willing to go to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service center with proof of ownership so they can unlock it I have no idea, but he's the only option you have.

Hi,

I think you can't reset firmware password of your MacBook if previous owner doesn't remember it.
