Can’t change the playback speed or display pictures from Photo app post update

I had created a great slideshow of a recent trip, then I upgraded to ios18. Now I can’t display the photos as I want, can’t change the playback speed or add my own music from itunes. This is HORRIBLE!

Almost accidentally I found a workaround to this problem. In an article (from Apple News, of all places) on uses for old iPads, there it was, an app called "Synced Photo Frame by Re-Frame". Free download, but ten bucks once started. It works very much like the "old" Apple slideshow function, able to select one or more of your iCloud albums, set duration, etc. I hate that Apple downgraded their own app and won't listen to its users, but this was definitely worth the ten buck to me. We now have pictures of vacations, family weddings, our grandchild, etc, streaming to a dedicated iPad every day.

No, I do not have any association with this app or the company that sells it.

OK, so can you tell me which OS you are using? You say you're using an iPad, but you said that you're using iOS18, which is an iPhone OS. You also say that you're using iPadOS15. Which is it?

When I said "clarify… exactly what you are doing," I meant what steps do you go through and what happens. You can use the links I sent to help specify the steps. How is what you get different than what you did before?

Have you put the pictures you chose for your slideshow in an album of their own?

I am using iPad OS18. The photos are in an album of their own as well as saved as a memory slideshow. Before I upgraded to OS18 I was able to display the photos in a magazine style…one full photo at a time. I was also able to change the speed of the slides by using the slider from “rabbit to turtle”, and add my own music from my iTunes library. Now with the update my photos are grouped/cropped automatically, it plays too fast and I can’t use my iTunes library. The links you provided were for the iPhone not iPad.

That is exactly the issue I’m having. I did a wonderful slideshow presentation of my grandson and future bride to play at the rehearsal dinner. I had the slides perfectly in order. I had some depicting Bible verses. And I had the music perfectly selected for the slideshow. When I went to play it, it cropped whatever ones it wanted to crop it stacked whatever ones that wanted to stack and my music was no longer even accessible. Whoever designed this had a serious deficit and understanding the needs of the consumer. If they are relying on AI to decide what I want to show and when and how I am more than willing to opt out.

I also have this issue- although slightly different. The issue seems to be Apple does offer a default value that can be tweaked or an adjustment for a on the fly slide show option -( select a bunch of photos and click slideshow), nor this issue. When you create a custom slideshow, you get this option for slide speed. So something is corrupted during the upgrade. Apple, every slideshow should have an adjustable slide speed 🤷‍♂️

Same here - I have upgraded to iPadOS 18.1 and all the setting options are gone:

  • I can't adjust the speed of the slideshow anymore
  • I can't play one full photo at a time - the pictures are being cropped and weirdly arranged
  • I can't adjust the transition style
  • I have included short videos that are now not playing in full length anymore, but are cut off after a few seconds

Typical case of not thoroughly tested software update, or trying to make things fancy without understanding typical use cases first, I assume.

When is this getting fixed? I put a slideshow together for a retirement party and the pace of the slides is enough to give the people there a stroke. Plus you can barely register a photo and enjoy the memory without it flying by. I can't believe this was logged as an issue in October and Apple hasn't resolved. The holidays are here, people want their photos as they want them.

I completely agree! I didn’t even know this was an issue until tonight. I have my Christmas party with my family and I put together a slideshow of all of our old Christmas photos from when we were little and then how things have changed and how we’ve grown and I can’t do that now because Everything that everyone has said is happening and this is terrible!!!!!

I too am SO disappointed with Apple. As a fan of the Apple ecosystem, I just learned that the HOURS I spent cropping, curating and timing multiple slideshows with appropriate music, have all been usurped by DUMB AI that completely degraded my slideshows to something that just doesn't work. Why, why, why didn't Apple inform us prior to the misnamed "upgrade" to 18.2???

Difficult to customize? It seems like the “geniuses” at apple feel “their” creation of a slideshow is so much better than their users that they removed/hid the options. Hey Apple! Stop redesigning apps and leaving out the options that are in the app already.

Creating a slideshow and making it a memory is ridiculous. Put memories as an option if you want that included. But don’t limit users because “YOU” think it’s better for users. IT’S NOT!!!

I’ve never been more frustrated with Apple and I’ve been using Apple products from the beginning.
