Appreciate the info about the problem happening even with a new iPhone. I'm still using an iPhone 12 Pro and, while it could use a battery replacement, it's worked fine... up until the launch of iOS 18. There are so many problems with every iOS 18 update, I could write a novel.
But this iPhoto issue is what brought me here - iPhoto will randomly crash in the middle of editing a photo. It's happened before, but not for a while- which is why I thought it was safe to edit pics again lol. But nope- I was editing a photo earlier- taking my time with it, but had no other apps open in the background, no music playing, no low battery, no phone overheating... all was calm, until it wasn't. Idk what set it off but the screen suddenly turned black and the little "spinning wheel of doom" popped up. (Note the entire screen wasn't black, like when your phone powers down. I could still see the borders of the iPhoto app, but the main screen was black. I could see the buttons at the top- "Cancel" and "Save" - but I couldn't click on them.)
I hoped it would resolve after a few min but it just stayed that way; wheel kept spinning. So I finally gave up and closed the app. Lost all my work, same as last time. So infuriating. Such a waste.
iPhone quality has deteriorated so much... it's shocking tbh. I've been using iPhones since the beginning- and I've never had a harder time using my phone than right now. In 2025. That's pretty wild.
But it's been causing me so much unnecessary daily frustration that I'm considering leaving Apple altogether.
It just shouldn't be this complicated or confusing to use - especially with such a high price tag.
When there are more problems than convenience, it may be time for a change.
