problem with iphone photos app when tryin to markup photos with text

Kozziemoto1, sorry, Apple now blocking me from posting more. Hopefully you can figure out just from what I’ve written, sorry! Key is Don’t try to highlight the text when you get to the second time around .

I have a brand new IPhone 16 pro and am having the same issue. I use the add text feature to edit photos for my small business. Zero problems until I updated to IOS 18. I just updated to 18.1 tonight and the issue was not fixed. I can change the letter size but when trying to change the color of the text or the font the editing tool simply disappears. This is Very inconvenient because I’m trying to make a Holiday discount post. Please help Apple Support!

Aaaand it doesn’t work in 18.2 either… I use this functionality for work everyday… and now I’m stuck… can I roll back to iOS 17 please because 18 is a giant pos filled with bugs that will never get fixed

Ahahahah, same issue here, iphone 15 Pro, latest iOS 18.1.1

what a disaster. For me also workaraunds do not work, i can only change text but not color or formating, it just flashes when trying to do this via Aa and if i select text, then formating, the it just hangs.

Software quality worse than on some android clones :D

However, Apple needs to fix this issue as the actual functions designed to achieve this do not work. Has been an issue since well before iOS 18 was released, so… yeah.

I’ve been trying to add text to a photo, as I’ve done many many times over many years, and now I can’t seem to do it. It’s the first time I’ve tried to do this since the editing icons changed after the last update.

Reading the other posts here it seems it’s a problem being widely experienced. I have an iPhone 13.

I have the exact same problem since first updating to iOS 18.

I noticed it first with adding shapes (e.g. a rectangle—which is grey by default). I can’t choose a color or get to the color picker, because the menu keeps disappearing.

Same with text. At the first try I can still change the point size in the same floating menu, but once I try to change the color, the menu keeps popping up for half a second from then on.

I reported it as a bug on apple.com/feedback several times.

On iOS 18.2.1 (22C161) it’s still an issue.

iPhone 13 mini.

(Seems to work on my old iPad Pro, though)

as ridiculous as it seems, I thought I was the only one experiencing this EXACT ISSUE so I instead of my usual researching & “letting the world know” I’ve been begrudgingly living with it.. THANK YOU for making me feel a tad bit less targeted lol

MarkTheKraken, do these steps below. It's a permanent fix and only needs to be done once:

Open your photo and click the 'edit' icon.

Click the "markup" icon at top-right (tip of a pen).

Select the pencil-eraser icon at the bottom.

Tap your photo.

Now you should be able to click the + icon and add text, change font colors, and edit normally.

Tap your photo.

Now you should be able to click the + icon and add text, change font colors, and edit normally.

The markup & edit functions have been moved to bottom center. Click on icon as shown in screenshot.

Same exact issue here … iPhone 13pro with iOS 18.1.1

Funny how the more expensive these phones are the more problems they have :)
