problem with iphone photos app when tryin to markup photos with text

The iPhone’s built-in Photos app lets you mark up photos and add text. When you select “Add Text” from the markup menu, the word “Text” appears in the center of the photo, and you can change its color, font, size, and style.

However, for some reason, while I can adjust everything else, I can’t change the color—despite the option being there. When I tap the color icon to edit the font color, the color menu briefly opens but immediately closes, returning me to the photo with the text and other changes applied.

I’m not sure if this is a glitch with iOS 18, as I hadn’t used this feature after updating from iOS 17. In iOS 17, I was able to adjust the font color without any issue.

I would like to hear if others encountered this problem and if they found a solution.

Update 18.0.1 didn't fix it on my phone. Problem is still there after the update.

What are you saying, it doesnt matter where its moved, if it does not work, then it does NOT WORK.

same issue on iphone 15 pro ios 18.1.1

Is there a resolution to this “glitch” ??? With the amount of money wet past for these things and the advances in tech you’d think we would not have these problems.

I tried it and managed to change the font and the colour but then couldn’t change colour again and it’s so complicated!

I can’t even edit the text I just get the word text in black added to the photo

I’m on 18.2 and the problem still persists. I’m sure it’s an easy fix they can do in a day, but they’re just being lazy. S. N. S. Truth is truth

I’m still experiencing this issue on my iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18.2. While the workaround does work, it’s a lengthy and time-consuming process. Please address this problem.

As the photos are on the cloud, I was able to change the font color on the photo using my iPad 5, but NOT the iPhone 16 Pro that has the original photo. Recently updated to 18.1.1, but it wasn’t an issue until 17 or so. Weird.

I just did the update, and I don’t care about text color.

Prior to update, I could select to “mark up” my photos in the top right corner of screen.

Now I can’t find that tool to mark up or add text at all.

Can anyone please help? TIA

Chris, agreed that the previously mentioned workaround didn't work for me. I followed the method you shared, or tried to, as I couldn't seem to select the text a second time in order to get the Aa icon, but after repeated tries, wiggling my finger around trying to make *something* happen, I finally did get it to appear and was successfully able to change my text color.

It's weird, I've been able to change the color maybe once in 10 tries since updating and having to deal with this awful situation, but I can't figure out what the difference was in that/those successful attempt(s). Hopefully this method will have a higher rate of success, but holy 🤬🤬🤬 is this RIDICULOUS?!?!? 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Thanks for at least a little glimmer of hope I'll be able to mark text on my screenshots again! I think I had marginal success taking the screenshot, saving it to my gallery THEN pulling up the image to edit after (as opposed to part of the initial process before it gets saved), but it wasn't working consistently either. 😔🙄🤷‍♀️
