I updated my iPhone 13 Pro Max to iOS 18 a couple of days ago, until then my battery life was fine, since then it's terrible! It is rendering the mobile phone essentially useless!

You cannot downgrade once you've upgraded. It's not supported.
What happened when you did a force restart immediately after updating your iPhone, which is recommended after updating iOS?

What’s the battery health listed in Settings>Battery>Battery Health?
Anything lower than 80% means the battery needs to be replaced.
Uninstalling iOS 18 is not an option.
The battery is working overtime really hard for a few days after any major new update, so that is a consideration.
What are the 5-6 apps that are using up the most battery power?
The worst was Audible, I've used it all the time, I stopped when it flattened my battery in a little over 60 minutes, prior to the upgrade I could use it for hours.
I also found Facebook & Instagram are now chewing through the battery too.
I did a force restart and got no joy. I tried reseting the phone then completely reseting the phone too [I'm still reinstalling apps], this didn't make a huge difference.
I started using my iPad for the apps that have drained the battery quickly as it is still working well. I am also turning off automatic upates so I can check updates before I do them.
