Unable to change the color of the text while editing photos after iOS 18 update

Just did latest iOS update (18.1.1) yesterday and experiencing same issue. Based on comment, this issue’s been around nearly 2 mths w/o a fix…so frustrating!

That did not work for me for colorizing text.

It looks like this is working but **** it’s a hard way of doing things and with all the other changes to deal with, it’s just ****. Thanks for your comment

This seems to be a real problem. Markup works fine for me and for many others. Some people have reported that with two phones in their family, one works and the other doesn't. The differences occur even with the same camera model, the same operator, and the same OS. There's probably noting that we can do differently with our phones to fix it.

This is going to make it a crazy problem to solve.

I’ll just have to learn to live with Black Text. Surely Apple could fix this bug, but seems this has been dragging on for so long now looking at this community thread.

Unbelievable Apple that Apple didn’t rectify this software issue before the last iOS 18.1.1 update. I guess, as so many other people are experiencing this same problem, that I can assure myself my iPhone 13 has been hacked😅

Thank you #ImagineHobbs, yes your solution is the only one that does work, but what a lengthy workaround APPLE ?!? 🙁 .. speaking of whom, has anybody out there heard the slightest peep of hope from them/it, like the patch, an apology, 18.n.n?

Wow. I came here looking for a way to fix this and learn what I might have been doing wrong, but evidently there’s no fix at all. What a shame. I need this feature for work too much to just ignore the problem. Time to figure out how to use a Samsung. Boo, Apple. Boo!

Thanks Ewe_Lina for posting this tip! What a rigamarole, but it works! One would think Apple developers could have at least posted this alternative until a fix had been made, but I guess they have their hands full...lol

So much for Ai, can’t even edit text on Photo app, SHAME on you great Apple Geniuses,

can someone please fix this issue, how many Apple phone users need to report this problem before anyone from Apple can fix it?

For this to be broken so long is evidence that Apple does not want images to be easily modified into MEMES and other text speech which are harder to censor or monitor. Prove us wrong Apple and fix this now.

Colour Text in Photos iOS 18.2 and newer

NEVER USE THE COLOUR CIRCLE THAT APPEARS WITH “Add Text”

Open edit as normal

Choose TEXT





Now click on the Aa tab



Now click on the colour circle and choose your colour: note the circle changes to your colour choice



If you want you can now choose other edit options. Now click (touch) on the picture



Edit your text as in the past

I can add text to my photos, but I can’t change the color. When I touch the color wheel it opens up for less than a second and then closes the text editor. This used to be so easy. iPhone and iPad are affected. The way the features worked a year ago was fine, then you ruined it

Thank you for the suggestion; it worked to adjust and change the text in the image. As someone previously mentioned, it is truly absurd that these kinds of faulty functions appear in Apple products, which are known for being exceptionally good at charging more than their actual quality justifies.

With IOS 18.3 Apple has finally cracked its own problem. The photo editing controls as to formatting, fonts, colour, & text size, are rearranged, but this time everything works properly again. I use an Xr.
