I tried different keyboards and the problem persists. Restarting in safe mode is the only time it works.

Thanks for your reply! I tried playing around with my problem, and embarrassingly, I discovered that I somehow used the period as a shortcut key for another program. I don't know how that happened, but everything is fixed now.
Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?
We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...
